Originally a Southern Californian for most of my life, I moved to Las Vegas in 2004. Coming from a place where you could drop a watermelon seed on the ground in the backyard and have a plant sprout without any work, the Las Vegas growing conditions have been a horticultural challenge! In fact it's been an expensive learning experience not only for the pocketbook, but also at the cost of injury. Countless days of using a pick axe to break up dirt and pull out small caliche boulders wrecked havoc on my shoulder. The rewards of a green sanctuary give me no regret, though I do advise getting some help if you have a large area to prep and plant!

Understanding your planting site and planning ahead of time is essential. The next step is researching what types of plants and trees have the best chance of thriving in their environment. Then give it a go, get your plants and trees in, provide your gardenscape love & water, and watch it grow!
