Shrubs & Vines
Bushes & shrubs tie a landscape together. Vines make a great covering for walls and structures like pergolas and posts. When choosing a shrub or vine consider whether it is an evergreen or deciduous. What's the difference? It is mainly how the plant adapts to different seasons. In Las Vegas we generally have summer and winter. The spring and fall seasons are very short. When doing your plant reserach I recommend checking with your nursery to see if the label rings true for the Las Vegas area. Some shrubs and plants that have a label of evergreen may actually be semi-deciduous or deciduous based on your planting zone.
Evergreen plants generally lose their leaves and needles throughout the year rather than losing all them in a short period at the end of a growing season.
Deciduous plants will lose all their leaves and needles at a certain stage in their life cycle and remain bare until the next growing season.
